Ajuga reptans

bugleweed

About the Bugleweed

An outstanding groundcover with robust colored foliage in dark purple, bronze or changes from deep green, light green, rose, violet and burgundy with mottled edges of creamy-white. A moderate to fast growing groundcover in good soil, best in a 1/2 day of sun to part shade. 2″ tall, violet-blue spikes cover the plants in spring and develop sporadically the rest of the season. Grow anywhere you need a tough, attractive groundcover.

Care Notes

Plant in dry to moist, nutrient poor or rich soil amended with organic matter like Petitti Planting Mix. Water well after planting; maintain 1” of water, once a week the first year. Use Plant-tone and Iron-tone in spring or at planting; apply Osmocote in summer. Shear or mow to rejuvenate. Mulch 1-2” to suppress weeds. Divide in spring or fall every 2-3 years.
