Mulch, Soil, & Amendments

everything you need to

amend your soil

Beautiful, bountiful gardens start with healthy, dark, nutrient-rich soil. Here in Northeast Ohio, homeowners working in the landscape sometimes encounter heavy clay, compacted, infertile, and even sandy soil (if living along Lake Erie). These conditions can create challenges for digging, root development, and nutrient absorption. The good news is, a little soil amending goes quite a long way! Here at Petitti’s, you’ll find the strongest selection of soil amendments to address our region’s needs. We also have a full range of container blends, including our own Petitti Planting Mix and Petitti Potting Soil, which we develop and use, ourselves, for growing all our plants! Mulches are also available in many types and colors, which properly completes any planting activity by serving as a layer of protection for the plant material.

we offer a wide variety

  • Petitti Potting Mix

The first soil Angelo Petitti developed to properly meet his needs as a grower in this region, Petitti Potting Soil is formulated for growing annuals, vegetables, and herbs in containers. It is predominantly a peat moss and perlite mixture that is moisture-retentive yet well-draining so that tender root systems do not rot. Available in 16qt and 32qt sizes.

  • Petitti Planting Mix

The second soil developed, Petitti Planting Mix, first begins with our own potting soil and adds a composted bark that enriches the soil. A heavier, nutritionally balanced mix, it is recommended and used for growing all of our perennials, trees, and shrubs outdoors. It can also be used to amend and enrich existing soil in gardens and in large containers. Available in 132QT.

  • Petitti Color Enhanced Mulch

Available in two vibrant shades of black and brown, Petitti Hardwood Mulch uses only virgin hardwood and natural dyes to bring a finished, professional look to your landscape. It is recommended for reducing weeds, protecting soil from extreme temperatures, minimizing water evaporation, and replenishing the soil.

  • Petitti Seed Starting Mix

A sterile mix that drains well and prevents newly planted seeds from becoming waterlogged and rotting, Petitti’s seed starter is a blend of peat moss, perlite, and vermiculite. The peat moss provides light moisture retention while the perlite and vermiculite provide proper aeration. When starting seeds in containers, do not use garden soil, as it may harbor pathogens and insects that can harm tiny seedlings.
