About the Coneflower

The native purple coneflower has been improved dramatically over the last decades where they now bloom prolifically their first year from seed, come in a variety of colors along with the classic violet-pink, and repeat bloom developing multiple branching stems and buds! Coneflowers are exemplary butterfly and bird magnets planted in sunny containers and front landscapes. along with Coreopsis, ornamental grasses and Monarda. Care Notes

Plant in well-drained to dry, nutrient rich soil amended with organic matter like Petitti Planting Mix. Water well after planting; maintain 1” of water, once a week the first year. Use Plant-tone and Iron-tone in spring or at planting; apply Osmocote in summer after removing spent flower stems to lateral buds. Mulch 1-2” to suppress weeds and retain soil moisture. Divide in spring every 4 years.
