Verbena x hybrida

verbena

About the Verbena

A large leaf, showy, free-flowering, annual verbenas flower in a rainbow of colors, including brilliant scarlet reds, eggplant purple, peach, striped, and ombre hues. Their habits are mounding to trailing making them versatile “fillers” or “spillers” in mixed patio containers and hanging baskets. Newer varieties show excellent powdery mildew resistance and vigorous, self-cleaning abilities. These annuals are excellent pollinator attractants and possess good deer resistance. Tall, upright, lavender flowering varieties, are also increasing in popularity used as “thrillers” in containers and garden beds. They are considered to be tender perennials, and may reseed themselves in the garden. Browse our varieties of Verbena online.

Care Notes

Grow in sunny areas, well-drained, amended soil or containers. Feed with a slow release fertilizer, Osmocote® or Plant-tone®. Follow label instructions. Repeat flowering, and often self-cleaning, but trim if leggy or stretched to maintain better blooming and a tidy habit. Mulch 2″ to suppress weeds, retain moisture and protect against extremes of soil temperature.
