The perennial Sedum family contains numerous easy to grow, hardy, succulent varieties from groundcovers to upright, showy stonecrops. Sedum are long lasting in dry, rock gardens and containers. There are a rainbow of foliage colors and variegations including the popular, chartreuse groundcover ‘Angelina’ to the deep carmine, tufted flowers of ‘Autumn Fire’. Plant in well-drained to dry, nutrient rich to poor soil amended with organic matter like Petitti Planting Mix. Water well after planting; maintain 1” of water, once a week the first year. Use Plant-tone and Iron-tone in spring or at planting; apply Osmocote in summer. Pinch in June for a compact habit. Cut back hard in spring. Mulch 1-2” to suppress weeds and retain soil moisture. Divide in spring when plants become overgrown and floppy.
