About the Showy Stonecrop, Perennial Sedum

The perennial Sedum family contains numerous easy to grow, hardy, succulent varieties from groundcovers to upright, showy stonecrops. Sedum are long lasting in dry, rock gardens and containers. There are a rainbow of foliage colors and variegations including the popular, chartreuse groundcover ‘Angelina’ to the deep carmine, tufted flowers of ‘Autumn Fire’. Flowers are excellent pollinator attractants, some blooming well into October. Shop the varieties available now.


Care Notes

Plant in well-drained to dry, nutrient rich to poor soil amended with organic matter like Petitti Planting Mix. Water well after planting; maintain 1” of water, once a week the first year. Use Plant-tone and Iron-tone in spring or at planting; apply Osmocote in summer. Pinch in June for a compact habit. Cut back hard in spring. Mulch 1-2” to suppress weeds and retain soil moisture. Divide in spring when plants become overgrown and floppy.
