Perovskia atriplicifolia

russian sage

About the Russian Sage

One of the most reliable perennials in the garden… Its silvery white stems and grey-green, dissected foliage are pungent smelling and extremely deer resistant. Electric blue to lavender flower spikes develop in mid-summer and will continue to show color late into fall. Excellent late summer pollinator magnet. Perennial Plant of the Year 1995.

Care Notes

Plant in well-drained, average to rich soil amended with organic matter like Petitti Planting Mix. Water well after planting; maintain 1” of water, once a week the first year. Use Plant-tone and Iron-tone in spring or at planting; apply Osmocote in summer. Cut back to 6″ in early spring. Mulch 1-2” to suppress weeds and retain soil moisture. Divide in spring when necessary.
