About the Pilea, Friendship Plant, Creeping Charlie
A family of small, tropical foliage plants with both upright and trailing habits, quilted, striped or semi-succulent leaves and stems. Red Stem Pilea and Creeping Charlie are used as “spillers” in shady mixed plants and hanging baskets. The Friendship Plant and Angelwings (P. spruceana) are seen in mixed dish gardens and easy to share and propagate.
Considered non-toxic, dog & cat friendly plant according to ASPCA.org.
Care Notes
Grow in medium, indirect lighting 6-8’ from a sunny window, middle of a bright room, or in 12-14 hours of fluorescent lighting. Prefers average to warm household temperatures, 60°-70°F. Keep soil evenly moist to slightly dry. Supply extra humidity by setting on a shallow tray of moistened pebbles. Feed with Osmocote or Miracle-Gro April-September.
