Tradescantia x andersoniana

perennial spiderwort

About the Perennial Spiderwort

A beautiful, upright, clumping spiderwort producing intense, blue-violet, triangular blossoms that dance over slightly arching, lance shaped foliage. These easy, self-cleaning beauties grow best in part shade gardens and shady containers. ‘Sweet Kate’ is a showy variety possessing brilliant golden foliage and electric blue flowers. Cut back hard after flowering to refresh the foliage and produce additional blooms.

Care Notes

Plant in moist, nutrient rich soil amended with organic matter like Petitti Planting Mix. Water well after planting; maintain 1” of water, once a week the first year. Use Plant-tone and Iron-tone in spring or at planting; apply Osmocote in summer after shearing back spent flowers and foliage for a neat appearance. Mulch 1-2” to suppress weeds and retain soil moisture. Divide in spring or fall every 3-4 years.
