Quercus spp.

About the Oak Tree

These large, majestic shade trees tend to form sturdy, pyramidal to broadly spreading canopies, deeply lobed foliage in green shades that mature to yellow, red and bronze in autumn. They generally produce deep tap root systems, support wildlife with acorn production, and can hold onto their foliage well into winter. Use as specimen in large areas, groves, and as a street tree.

Care Notes

Plant in well-drained to moist, amended soil. Water well after planting; maintain 1” of water once a week the first year. Little pruning needed; shapes itself nicely. Remove dead branches or trunk suckers any time. Feed early spring and mid-summer with a slow release fertilizer. Follow label instructions. Mulch 2″ to suppress weeds, retain moisture and protect against extremes of soil temperature.
