About the Hollyhock

Classic, cottage garden favorites where 4-5″ wide, single or double blossoms in a wide variety of colors including reds, pinks, white, peach, yellow, and black are produced on sturdy, towering spikes that can grow 4-8′ tall.

Care Notes

Plant in well-drained to moist, acidic, nutrient rich soil amended with organic matter like Petitti Planting Mix. Water well after planting; maintain 1” of water, once a week the first year. Use Plant-tone and Iron-tone in spring or at planting; apply Osmocote in summer. Deadhead this biennial/perennial to keep a clean appearance, but let some seed develop and drop. Mulch 1-2” to suppress weeds and retain soil moisture. Divide in spring or fall.
