Fittonia albivenis

fittonia, nerve plant

About the Fittonia, Nerve Plant

Commonly referred to as Nerve Plant, Fittonia is a small houseplant with ovate, veined leaves. Vein color ranges from silvery-white to bright red. Foliage color is most often deep green, but some varieties have lighter, lime-colored foliage. They prefer to grow in bright light but their foliage is sensitive to direct sun, so be sure to keep them a few feet away from sunny windows. This extremely slow-growing plant is not known for its blooms but when grown in the right conditions it can produce spike-like blooms.

Considered non-toxic, dog & cat friendly plant according to ASPCA.org.

Care Notes

Grow in bright, indirect lighting on a north-facing window sill, or 5-6’ from a sunny window. Keep soil evenly moist, but do not overwater. Supply extra humidity by setting on a shallow tray of moistened pebbles. Feed with Osmocote or Espoma® Organic Indoor!  once a month, April to September.
