About the Orchids

This enormous, tropical flowering plant family is characterized by their waxy green leaves, three-petaled flowers with unique shapes, bilateral symmetry, and myriad of colors, mottling, and some fragrance. Orchids grow naturally as epiphytes, (growing on trees in the tropics, absorbing nutrients from the air, rain, and debris around them), or in the ground. The most popular is the Moth Orchid or Phalaenopsis for it’s adaptability in home or office environments, longevity and beauty of blooms, along with its excellent ability to clean the air, and it is people and pet friendly. Care Notes

Grow in bright to medium, indirect lighting from an eastern or northern exposure window, or under fluorescent lighting. Prefers cool to average household temperatures, 60° at night and 70°F during the day. Spray mist regularly and keep soil evenly moist to slightly dry. Supply extra humidity by setting on a shallow tray of moistened pebbles. Feed with an Orchid fertilizer as directed or fertilize with an all purpose plant food weakly, (1/4 strength), weekly.
