Silene spp.

catchfly

About the Catchfly

Mounded, clean green foliage comes alive late spring with profuse, five petal, creeping phlox-like flowers in a fluorescent, violet-pink. Makes an attractive ground cover at the edge of a landscape bed or combines well with other rock garden favorites.

Care Notes

Plant in well-drained to dry, average to rich soil amended with organic matter like Petitti Planting Mix. Water well after planting; maintain 1” of water, once a week the first year. Use Plant-tone and Iron-tone in spring or at planting; apply Osmocote in summer. Shear spent flower spikes down to basal foliage to promote reblooming. Mulch 1-2” to suppress weeds and retain soil moisture. Divide in spring when necessary.
