About the Astilbe, False Spirea

Astilbe are exceptional staples in the woodland garden producing vibrant colored panicle flowers in shades of pink, purple, red, and white over dense, fern-like foliage that is green to bronze in color. Look for early, mid and late season blooming varieties to maintain long lasting color in your shade garden, and the later blooming and enhanced sun tolerance of the “Visions Series”. Care Notes

Plant in moist, nutrient rich soil amended with organic matter like Petitti Planting Mix. Water well after planting; maintain 1” of water, once a week the first year. Do not let them dry out. Use Plant-tone and Iron-tone in spring or at planting; apply Osmocote in summer. Mulch 1-2” to suppress weeds and retain soil moisture. Divide in spring every 3-4 years after cutting back the foliage.
