Yucca filamentosa

yucca

About the Yucca

This plant family develops sturdy clumps of sword-shaped foliage that can be green to blue-green and variegated. At maturity they may develop a tall, flower stalk in early summer with creamy-white bell-like flowers that later develop into large seed pods. The plant habit and foliage texture adds instant drama and interest to any landscape. These plants are excellent in hot, sunny borders, rock gardens, containers, or as landscape accents.

Care Notes

Plant in well-drained, amended soil. Water well after planting; maintain 1” of water once a week the first year. Little pruning is needed. Old flower stalks can be removed to keep the plant tidy. Divide/transplant in spring. Fertilize in early spring and mid-summer with a multi=purpose fertilizer. Follow label instructions. Mulch 2″ to suppress weeds, retain moisture and protect against extremes of soil temperature.
