Veronica spp.

speedwell

About the Speedwell

Speedwells typically produce neat clumps of clean, green foliage from which dense spikes of blue, purple, pink, (‘Giles Van Hees’) or white flowers bloom over several weeks time. There are also dense flowering groundcover varieties available with green to yellow, (‘Sunshine’), foliage and purple, blue or white flowers. Cut the spent flowers back to the basal foliage or use in cut arrangements to promote repeat blooming. Groundcover types make excellent, sunny “spillers”.

Care Notes

Plant in well-drained, nutrient rich soil amended with organic matter like Petitti Planting Mix. Water well after planting; maintain 1” of water, once a week the first year. Use Plant-tone and Iron-tone in spring or at planting; apply Osmocote in summer. Shear spent flower spikes down to basal foliage to promote reblooming. Mulch 1-2” to suppress weeds and retain soil moisture. Divide in spring or fall when necessary.
