mossy saxifraga

About the Mossy Saxifraga

This rock garden, alpine specimen forms succulent, mossy green, mats of mounded, evergreen foliage that becomes covered with short violet-purple stems upon which tiny, carmine-purple, pink and white flowers bloom in spring.

Care Notes

Plant in well-drained, gritty, slightly alkaline, nutrient rich soil amended with organic matter like Petitti Planting Mix. Water well after planting; maintain 1” of water, once a week the first year. Use Plant-tone and Iron-tone in spring or at planting; apply Osmocote in summer. Shear spent flowers for a neat appearance and some reblooming. Mulch 1-2” to suppress weeds and retain soil moisture. Divide in spring after flowering.
