About the Crocosmia

Crocosmia, also referred to as Montbretia, is a gorgeous, clump-forming bulbous (corm) perennial that produces tall, arched stems of tubular, golden orange to flame red flowers. Even when not in bloom, it’s narrow, sword-shaped foliage adds spiky texture and structure to the landscape. This nectar-rich plant attracts all types of pollinators, but is especially attractive to hummingbirds. Crocosmia will grow in part shade conditions, but they’ll bloom their best when in full sun.

Care Notes

Plant in well-drained, nutrient rich soil amended with organic matter like Petitti Planting Mix. Water well after planting; maintain 1” of water, once a week the first year. Use Plant-tone and Iron-tone in spring or at planting; apply Osmocote in summer. Mulch 1-2” to suppress weeds and retain soil moisture. Divide offsets in spring when growth is immature every 2-3 years to prevent overcrowding and reduced flowering.
