Dracaena sanderiana

lucky bamboo

About the Lucky Bamboo

This tropical foliage plant from Southeast Asia in the Dracaena family is known for its bright green, notched stems, similar to real bamboo. Its popularity has resulted from its easy care, growing very well in water, no soil needed, and it is known for bringing luck and good feng shui. The numbers of stalks used in an arrangement are said to enhance life: three attracts happiness, five attracts wealth, and so on. Used as an excellent house warming, shower, or new business gift.

Care Notes

Grow in medium, indirect lighting 6-8’ from a sunny window, middle of a bright room, or in 12-14 hours of fluorescent lighting. Prefers cool to average household temperatures, 55°-75°F. Must be kept moist, prefers a couple of inches of fresh filtered or distilled water. For best results change the water every two weeks to once a month. Supply extra humidity by setting on a shallow tray of moistened pebbles. Feed with Osmocote or Miracle-Gro at half strength once in spring and repeat in summer if needed.
