About the Oregano
Angelo’s Farm Market herbs are specifically selected for home growers to be productive, disease resistant, and flavorful. Look for the classic ‘Greek’ and ‘Italian’ types, savory ‘Hot & Spicy’, and the ornamental ‘Golden’ and ‘Kent Beauty’ varieties. Oregano is an indispensable perennial, culinary herb that lends its strong flavor and aroma nicely to many Mediterranean dishes including fish, chicken, beef, pasta, mushrooms and tomatoes. Oregano can also be used in herbal teas and in an herb bath to sooth sore muscles. As an ornamental plant it possesses small white, edible flowers that are drought tolerant and easy to grow in containers as most herbs.
Care Notes
Plant in sunny, well-drained, nutrient rich soil or containers amended with organic matter like Petitti Planting Mix. Water well after planting; maintain 1” of water once a week throughout the growing season. Feed with a slow release fertilizer, Osmocote® or Garden-tone®. Follow label instructions. Mulch 2″ to suppress weeds, retain moisture and protect against extremes of soil temperature. Harvest 1/3 of the new, tender foliage in the morning. Dry or freeze extra for future use.
