About the Cantaloupe ‘Superstar’
Angelo’s Farm Market fruits are specifically selected for home growers to be productive, disease resistant, and flavorful. Look for ‘Superstar’, considered to be the best tasting cantaloupe/muskmelon in the Midwest! ‘Superstar’ produces heavy, early vines loaded with disease resistant, 6 to 8 pound, heavily ribbed and netted, round to oval fruits with smooth, thick, salmon-orange flesh that possess mouth watering aroma and flavor. Best grown in southern exposure, well-drained, sweetened soil (adding lime). Pick when skin takes-on a “warm” hue and the fruit easily detaches from the vine. Maturity: 86 days
Care Notes
Plant in sunny, well-drained, nutrient rich soil or containers amended with organic matter like Petitti Planting Mix. Water well after planting; maintain 1” of water once a week throughout the growing season. Feed with a slow release fertilizer, Osmocote® or Garden-tone®. Follow label instructions. Mulch 2″ to suppress weeds, retain moisture and protect against extremes of soil temperature.
