Nematanthus gregarius

goldfish plant

About the Goldfish Plant

This gorgeous, flowering houseplant earned its name for its bright orange, goldfish-shaped blooms. Also referred to as Clog Plant, this glossy, fine-leafed plant prefers to grow in bright light conditions but does not want to be in direct sunlight, so be sure to keep them a few feet away from sunny windows. As it matures, branches will cascade over the edges of containers, growing up to 2′ in length. To keep plants bushier and more compact, pinch stems back as they grow. This routine pruning will also promote better blooming, which means more goldfish to enjoy!

Considered non-toxic, dog & cat friendly plant according to ASPCA.org.

Care Notes

Grow in bright, indirect lighting on a north-facing window sill, or 5-6’ from a sunny window. Keep soil slightly dry, do not overwater. Supply extra humidity by setting on a shallow tray of moistened pebbles. Feed with a Osmocote or Espoma® Organic Indoor! at half strength once a month, April to September.
