About the Lungwort

Lungwort (Pulmonaria spp.) is a clump-forming perennial with semi-evergreen leaves spotted in silver. These shade-loving plants produce early spring blooms in various shades of blues, pinks, and purples. A great alternative to Brunner a, these plants are low maintenance and deer-resistant. When planted in mass, they become a fantastic groundcover. They can also be used as a specimen in rock gardens as they prefer rich, moist but well-drained soil.

Care Notes

Plant in well-drained, nutrient-rich soil amended with organic matter like Petitti Planting Mix. Water well after planting; maintain 1” of water, once a week the first year. Use Plant-tone and Iron-tone in spring or at planting; apply Osmocote in summer. Deadhead spent flowers for neat appearance. Mulch 1-2” to suppress weeds and retain soil moisture. Divide in spring or fall when necessary.
