Radio Show Recap
This Week in Your Lawn & Garden
- Managing Unsightly Molds | If seeing fungus like Fuligo septica (grey-yellow slime mold), know that it’s not harmful, just an unsightly indication of wet, decomposing mulch that needs more air flow. Dispose of it with a shovel, and rake the area for better circulation. If noticing the black spots of Artillery fungi (aka shotgun fungus) developing on the sides of your house or car, an automotive bug & tar cleaner will work to clear it up.
- Managing Lawn Disease | Lawn diseases have been increasing this season with the rain & humidity Apply DiseaseEx™ Lawn Fungicide to control brown patch, rust, red thread, mildew, and more for up to 4 weeks. SHOP DiseaseEx™
- Harvesting the Garden | Continue harvesting peppers & tomatoes as soon as they ripen. Keep cutting herbs so they stay fresh & vegetative. Feed veggie & herb plants with Garden-tone® to ensure steady nutrition.
- Killing Off Crabgrass | Crabgrass is shooting up everywhere in the lawn, especially after the long stretch of humid nights. Apply WeedBeater® Plus Crabgrass or Roundup® Crabgrass Destroyer to kill the crabgrass off now before it goes to seed (it won’t kill the lawn). That way, you won’t end up with crabgrass seed laying dormant in your lawn soil over winter, just waiting for the chance to germinate next spring.
- Stopping Scale | If you’re finding scale insects on Hemlock and other evergreens, drench the base of the trees & shrubs now with Bonide® ANNUAL® Tree & Shrub Insect Control for protection through next spring.
- Eliminating Wasp Nests | The population of problematic hornets & yellowjackets gets large this time of year. Spray their nests with Wasp & Hornet Killer. For ground bees nesting in the lawn, use Spider & Ground Bee Killer.
