- Turning Hydrangeas Blue/Pink | For Bigleaf Hydrangea (H. macrophylla) varieties, if you haven’t done so already, feed Aluminum Sulfate & Holly-tone® to the plants you’d like to see bloom blue. To bloom pink, feed them Garden Lime & Plant-tone®. Repeat the application when buds are the size of a quarter. Additionally, you can apply Triple Phosphate to any flowering shrubs that have been lackluster bloomers for you. WATCH How to Change Hydrangea Color
- Protecting from Insects | Leafminers, lacebugs, borers, and viburnum beetle are active now. Protect boxwoods, azaleas, rhododendrons, viburnums, and ash trees after blooming with Bonide Annual® Tree & Shrub control. WATCH About the Viburnum Leaf Beetle
- Caring for Hanging Baskets | The potting soil we use in our hanging baskets contains HydraFiber®, a natural, pulverized, shredded white pine material that holds water better, which may lengthen intervals between watering. Feed every 6 weeks with Osmocote®. WATCH Hanging Basket Care
- Repelling Deer | Keep deer & rabbits from browsing by sprinkling Plantskydd® granules around plants as they emerge. Switch to Plantskydd® spray once plants have leafed out, and use as directed. READ Deer-Resistant Gardening
- Preventing Mildew | Start routinely spraying Bonide® Copper Fungicide now (before the hot weather starts) on Clematis, tall Garden Phlox, Roses, Bee Balm, Peony, and other susceptible plants to prevent the onset of powdery mildew. It is easier to prevent by spraying ahead than it is to control the problem once it shows up. SHOP Copper Fungicide
