Angelo’s Favorite Hydrangeas for Show-Stopping Blooms

Radio Show Recap

July is hydrangea month and they are looking beautiful! This week, Angelo talked about the different types of hydrangeas and shared his favorite varieties of each. He also shared advice for cutting back annuals to promote new growth and blooms, fertilizing the veggie garden, and pruning white pines and spruces. PLUS, he answered caller questions like “My Lenten Roses have Aphids, what can I do to get rid of them”, and “Can I divide and transplant perennial tickseed now”?

Smooth Hydrangeas (Hydrangea arborescens)
Produce very large, white blooms. When they get about 75% bloomed out, cut them back halfway, fertilize with Plant-tone, and they should rebloom.

Bigleaf Hydrangeas (Hydrangea macrophylla)

Panicle Hydrangeas (Hydrangea paniculata)

Oakleaf Hydrangea (Hydrangea quercifolia)
