Limonium latifolium

sea lavender

About the Sea Lavender

From a distance a purple haze appears in the garden, but upon closer inspection the gardener will find clouds of tiny, lavender-blue flowers blooming above well branched stems and low, leathery, dark green foliage. An essential plant for flower arranging, wreath making, and cutting gardens.

Care Notes

Plant in well-drained, light, sandy, soil amended with organic matter like Petitti Planting Mix. Keep surface of rhizome dry. Water well after planting; maintain 1” of water, once a week the first year. Use Plant-tone and Iron-tone in spring or at planting; apply Osmocote in summer. Deadhead spent flowers to promote reblooming. Mulch 1-2” to suppress weeds and retain soil moisture. Division is difficult; let self-seed in fall.
