Centranthus ruber 'Coccineus'

red valerian ‘coccineus’

About the Red Valerian ‘Coccineus’

Large clusters of fragrant, rose to carmine-red flowers are produced on sturdy stems above smooth, grey-green, oval foliage. An easy grower and rewarding long bloomer for the garden novice. Cut stems to use in a vase and promote reblooming.

Care Notes

Plant in well-drained to dry, alkaline, nutrient rich soil amended with organic matter like Petitti Planting Mix. Water well after planting; maintain 1” of water, once a week the first year. Use Plant-tone and Iron-tone in spring or at planting; apply Osmocote in summer. Deadhead spent flower stems down to lateral buds for repeat blooms. Mulch 1-2” to suppress weeds and retain soil moisture. Divide in spring or fall when necessary.
