Potentilla fruticosa

potentilla

About the Potentilla

An easy to grow small mounded shrub valued for its abundant, repeat blooming, 1″ wide flowers in shades of pink, white, or yellow set against a backdrop of dark green, blue-green to grey-green foliage. The blossoms are displayed over a long season, from late spring to early fall. This plant is ideal for foundation plantings, attracting pollinators, and mixed shrub borders.

Care Notes

Plant in well-drained to moist, amended soil. Water well after planting; maintain 1” of water once a week the first year. Little pruning needed; shapes itself nicely. Cut back hard, down to 10-12″, every 2-3 years to rejuvenate. Feed at least twice during the growing season with a slow release fertilizer in early spring and again mid-summer. Follow label instructions. Mulch 2″ to suppress weeds, retain moisture and protect against extremes of soil temperature.
