Portulaca grandiflora

portulaca, moss rose

About the Portulaca, Moss Rose

An excellent heat, sun and dry soil lover, Portulaca is an easy care annual that produces small, 1″ wide, rose-like flowers in rich, jeweled tones of pinks, golds, orange and red over sprawling to trailing, succulent, mossy green to bronze stems and foliage. Perfect for rock gardens, container gardens in hot spots, and around the mailbox.

Care Notes

Grow in sunny areas, well-drained, amended soil or containers. Feed with a slow release fertilizer, Osmocote® or Plant-tone®. Follow label instructions. Repeat blooming, but trim as needed to maintain better blooming and a tidy habit. Mulch 2″ to suppress weeds, retain moisture and protect against extremes of soil temperature. Flowers will close at night and when it’s cloudy.
