About the Aster New England, Aster New York

New England Asters and New York Asters are perennials producing small, vivid colored, daisy-like flowers with yellow centers late summer to fall. In shades of blue-purple, they nicely complement and complete a rainbow of fall mums. Newer varieties have been bred for excellent disease resistance, compact, mounding habits, and a late season show. The popular Henry™ series is a type of New York Aster that’s hardy and particularly good for supporting fall pollinators. Henry™ tends to display a more compact habit, thinner stems, and smoother leaves than New England types, though they look very similar. Varieties in the popular Kickin® and ‘Vibrant Dome’ series are all New England types. Asters are easy to grow in containers and in the cutting garden.
