ligularia, yellow rocket

A necessary blooming and bold textured foliage addition to any shade garden, especially near wet areas and water features. Ligularia features large, 6″ wide, deep green to maroon, heart shaped leaves with jagged margins and interesting brown veins underneath. Tall spikes of brilliant, gold flowers appear June to August in abundance on the “rocket types”. ‘Britt Marie Crawford’ produces clusters of golden daisies. Plant in moist shade or rain gardens.

Plant in moist, nutrient rich soil amended with organic matter like Petitti Planting Mix. Water well after planting; maintain 1” of water, once a week the first year. Use Plant-tone and Iron-tone in spring or at planting; apply Osmocote in summer. Mulch 1-2” to suppress weeds and retain soil moisture. Divide in spring when necessary.
