Cymbopogon citratus

lemon grass

About the Lemon Grass

This extremely aromatic, light green, upright-arching, tropical grass can make a statement in your annual herb garden or as a lemon scented “thriller” in a sunny container. Lower leaf sections and foliage are used as a superb lemon flavoring in Asian dishes. This plant can be wintered over indoors in a sunny window. Cut back to 6″ before bringing it inside in late fall. Part of the Angelo’s Farm Market, mosquito repellent herbs collection that were specifically selected for home growers to be productive, disease resistant, and flavorful.

Care Notes

Plant in sunny, well-drained, nutrient rich soil or containers amended with organic matter like Petitti Planting Mix. Water well after planting; maintain 1” of water once a week throughout the growing season. Feed with a slow release fertilizer, Osmocote® or Garden-tone®. Follow label instructions. Mulch 2″ to suppress weeds, retain moisture and protect against extremes of soil temperature. Harvest entire stems at the base in the morning. Freeze extra.
