Melissa officinalis

lemon balm

About the Lemon Balm

A wonderfully refreshing, perennial herb exuding a strong, lemon-mint scent when crushed. Delicious accent in seafood recipes, used in soothing herbal teas and sweet smelling potpourri. Also excellent at attracting pollinators like bees and butterflies. Part of the Angelo’s Farm Market, mosquito repellent herbs collection that were specifically selected for home growers to be productive, disease resistant, and flavorful.

Care Notes

Plant in sunny, well-drained, nutrient rich soil or containers amended with organic matter like Petitti Planting Mix. Water well after planting; maintain 1” of water once a week throughout the growing season. Feed with a slow release fertilizer, Osmocote® or Garden-tone®. Follow label instructions. Mulch 2″ to suppress weeds, retain moisture and protect against extremes of soil temperature. Harvest 1/3 of the new, tender foliage in the morning. Dry or freeze extra for future use. Best planted in a container garden as it is part of the mint family and can spread in the garden.
