About the Ivy, English, Algerian

There are thousands of annual/houseplant Ivies that grow wonderfully in morning sun to part shade to full shade areas in your garden and also in your home. They make excellent “spillers” and climbers, purify the air, and provide interesting foliage color and texture to container gardens. English Ivy is a well known shady groundcover, but for its annual varieties the plant provides a diverse color range, variegation patterns, and different foliage shapes that prefer indirect sunlight to shade in combination planters and hanging baskets. Algerian Ivy possesses large, 5-8″ wide, leathery, shield shaped leaves that are spaced an inch or more on the vine for a dramatic, trailing statement. Algerian Ivy is also more sun and heat tolerant than English Ivy. Shop Ivy varieties available now.

Care Notes

Grow in indirect sun to shady areas in well-drained, evenly moist to slightly dry soil in containers. Feed with a slow release fertilizer, Osmocote® or Plant-tone®. Follow label instructions. Trim as needed to encourage a tidy habit. Annual/houseplant types require wintering over indoors after one or two fall frosts.
