About the French Lavender

Angelo’s Farm Market herbs are specifically selected for home growers to be productive, disease resistant, and aromatic. Look for several, tender perennial, French/English hybrid varieties, ‘Provence’ and ‘Grosso’ that produce wonderfully soft, light green to silver, exceptionally aromatic foliage and classic periwinkle blue to lavender flower spikes in midsummer. Excellent source of French lavender oil. Lavender is best known for its sensuous, calming fragrance, but it also can be used in herbal teas, attracts butterflies, and repels rabbits, mice, ticks and mosquitoes. Flowers are edible and make excellent dried flowers.

Care Notes

Plant in sunny, well-drained, nutrient rich soil or containers amended with organic matter like Petitti Planting Mix. Water well after planting; maintain 1” of water once a week throughout the growing season. Feed with a slow release fertilizer, Osmocote® or Garden-tone®. Follow label instructions. Mulch 2″ to suppress weeds, retain moisture and protect against extremes of soil temperature. Harvest 1/3 of the new, tender foliage in the morning. Dry or freeze extra for future use.
