About the Evening Primrose

Evening primrose or sundrops will put on a show most of the growing season in the garden or in containers. These four petaled, lemon, gold or pastel pink beauties cover cascading green foliage. Newer varieties tend to stay open during the day looking best in the front border of a sunny cottage garden or rock garden.

Care Notes

Plant in well-drained, nutrient poor soil amended with organic matter like Petitti Planting Mix. Water well after planting; maintain 1” of water, once a week the first year. Use Plant-tone and Iron-tone in spring or at planting; apply Osmocote in summer. Mulch 1-2” to suppress weeds and retain soil moisture. Divide in spring or fall when necessary.
