Solanum melongena

eggplant

About the Eggplant

Angelo’s Farm Market veggies are specifically selected for home growers to be productive, disease resistant, and flavorful. Look for the true ‘Classic’ eggplant producing large, 4″ wide by 9″ long, teardrop shaped fruits of glossy, black-purple skin and tender flesh, and the finger-like, purple and white ‘Hansel’ and ‘Gretel’ varieties. Excellent growers for many Mediterranean dishes including eggplant parmesan, ratatouille, sautéed in pasta, grilled and diced fresh in salsas and relishes.

Care Notes

Plant in sunny, well-drained, nutrient rich soil or containers amended with organic matter like Petitti Planting Mix. Water well after planting; maintain 1” of water once a week throughout the growing season. Feed with a slow release fertilizer, Osmocote® or Garden-tone®. Follow label instructions. Mulch 2″ to suppress weeds, retain moisture and protect against extremes of soil temperature.
