About the Delphinium

These tall, cottage and cutting garden perennials produce strong, showy stems loaded with pink, purple, lavender, white, and brilliant blue flowers. Some have a white center or dark center. They perfer cool, mild summers, and slightly akaline soil. Staking is recommended as the flower spikes may topple and break from rain or wind. Plant in a sunny garden, back of the border with other cut flower varieties.

Care Notes

Plant in well-drained to dry, nutrient rich soil amended with organic matter like Petitti Planting Mix. Water well after planting; maintain 1” of water, once a week the first year. Use Plant-tone and Iron-tone in spring or at planting; apply Osmocote in summer after removing spent flower stems to lateral buds. Mulch 1-2” to suppress weeds and retain soil moisture. Divide in spring every 4 years. Stake as needed.
