About the Cilantro
This favorite herb of salsa enthusiasts and Mexican cuisine possesses a fresh, nutty yet citrus taste. The seeds of cilantro are coriander which also possesses a stronger citrus flavor commonly used in curries along with fish, poultry, pork, pickles and soups. ‘Santo’ is slower than most to bolt. Let the cream colored, edible flowers mature and form seed to harvest coriander. Deters slugs and snails. Part of the Angelo’s Farm Market herbs collection that were specifically selected for home growers to be productive, disease resistant, and flavorful.
Care Notes
Plant in sunny, well-drained, nutrient rich soil or containers amended with organic matter like Petitti Planting Mix. Water well after planting; maintain 1” of water once a week throughout the growing season. Feed with a slow release fertilizer, Osmocote® or Garden-tone®. Follow label instructions. Mulch 2″ to suppress weeds, retain moisture and protect against extremes of soil temperature. Harvest 1/3 of the new, tender foliage in the morning. Harvest seed heads when greenish-brown in color. Dry or freeze extra for future use.
