Olive Tree Care

Light | Olive trees require full sun (6+ hours of direct sunlight) to flourish. Indoors, a room or windowsill with bright, direct light is best. If the plant is placed in indirect light, it will continue to grow but may not flower/fruit well and foliage may drop.

Water | When the soil feels dry 1-2 inches below the surface, water thoroughly. Indoors, keep soil on the drier side. Outdoors, during periods of extreme summer heat, container-grown olives may require daily watering.

Humidity | Olive trees enjoy heat and drier conditions. Try to mimic a Mediterranean climate, with temperature ranging from 60-80ºF and average humidity around 40%.

Olive trees are spring-blooming evergreens, constantly renewing leaves throughout the year when properly transitioned indoors and out. While they are considered to be self-fertile, fruit quality and yield improve when two or more plants are grown together. Plants begin to develop fruit around 5-6 years old, producing fruit on “old wood”, or stems that are at least 2 years old.
