These lush, soft-needled, pyramidal evergreens are frequently planted en masse to achieve a natural privacy screen, or individually as a specimen, especially given all the new color varieties ranging green to yellow.
Many upright Arborvitaes are fast growers, and some are also highly resistant to deer browsing! Varieties of Eastern White-Cedar Arborvitae (Thuja occidentalis) have a dense, compact habit and good cold hardiness. Varieties of Western Redcedar (Thuja plicata) are deer resistant, large, and fast growing (e.g. ‘Spring Grove’, ‘Sugar & Spice’, and ‘Green Giant’).
