Only two types of Hydrangea are changeable in terms of bloom color, which is achieved by manipulating soil pH – varieties in the Bigleaf (H. macrophylla) and Mountain (H. serrata) families! When attempting to change the color of hydrangeas, remember color intensity will depend on the variety plus time & consistency of treatment. Pastel pinks will turn pastel blue or lavender, and vice versa. Deep, dramatic pinks will change to a deep, dramatic blue-purple, and vice versa.
