Even before the resurgence of modern-day Victory Garden in 2020, Raised Bed gardens were on the rise for anyone looking to grow a Vegetable garden or even a Cut Flower garden. The benefits of growing in raised beds are many. Technically a larger-scale version of Container Gardening, the pros are the same and differ only in that raised beds generally have an open bottom. Raised beds provide good drainage, fast-warming soil, looser soil than in-ground beds, less weeding, and fewer pest issues. Plus, many find them to be aesthetically pleasing in the homeowner landscape!

Over the course of 2020-2021, we created a video series to show you exactly how to create and maintain a raised bed vegetable garden, answering key questions that will help Northeast Ohio gardeners be successful. Hosted by Noelle, a degreed horticulturist and Petitti’s Manager of Education, the series documents the experience of Jason, our Annuals Manager at Petitti Strongsville, as he endeavored to create a raised bed garden from scratch. Each video in the series addresses a milestone in the process from beginning to end!

Growing a raised bed vegetable garden in Northeast Ohio can be an extremely fun and rewarding experience. Raised beds offer a lot of control, they’re easy to maintain, and they look great.
