Radio Show Recap
This Week in Your Lawn & Garden:
- Preparing for Lawn Renovation | If you’re planning to renovate the lawn in September, now is the time to prepare. Mow down to 2.5″, spray Weed Beater®
Ultra, and wait a couple weeks. Then run the de-thatcher 3/4″ into soil, clean up the debris, and put your seed, fertilizer, lime, and GrubEx® down all at the same time, watering it in. Grass will germinate in about 2 weeks. If your weeds are very bad, start taking steps to kill off the lawn now, and plan to seed a whole new lawn from scratch in September. READ Seeding the Lawn - Managing Lawn Disease | Lawn diseases have been increasing this season with the rain & humidity Apply DiseaseEx™ Lawn Fungicide to control brown patch, rust, red thread, mildew, and more for up to 4 weeks. SHOP DiseaseEx™
- Managing Garden Disease | Vegetable gardens have been productive this season, but increased rain & humidity is taking a toll on plants susceptible to powdery mildew and other fungal issues. Keep an eye out and spray routinely with Copper Fungicide to minimize the spread. SHOP Copper Fungicide
- Splitting Daylilies & Hosta | All the moisture we’ve had is making it a very good time to dig, divide & transplant Daylily and Hosta. Prepare soil in the new holes first. Re-plant at the same soil level. Make sure they don’t dry up the first couple weeks, and you’re all set. WATCH Dividing Hostas
- Sowing Cold Crops | It’s still a good time to sow seeds for cold-crop vegetables like spinach, collards, chicory, Swiss chard, endive, escarole, broccoli, and leaf lettuce. They do well in cool temperatures, and you’ll be able to harvest them all through fall (and possibly into winter!). WATCH Starting Cold Crops
