About the Perennial Lobelia

The native cardinal flower produces dozens of attractive scarlet red flower spikes towering over deep, burgundy-bronze foliage. Perennial Lobelia also comes in shades of pink and blue with the same showy, spike flowers, but with deep green foliage. A favorite of the hummingbirds and gorgeous along streams and rain gardens. Care Notes

Plant in moist, nutrient rich soil amended with organic matter like Petitti Planting Mix. Water well after planting; maintain 1” of water, once a week the first year. Use Plant-tone and Iron-tone in spring or at planting; apply Osmocote in summer. Deadhead spent flower stems to encourage repeat blooms. Mulch 1-2” to suppress weeds and retain soil moisture. Divide in fall when necessary. May self-seed.
