About the Palms

A huge plant family consisting of tropical trees or shrubs with large, compound, evergreen leaves, (fronds), that are arranged at the top of an unbranched stem. Palms are commonly used as floor plants in large living spaces, make excellent “thrillers” in an annual container garden, and can provide shade on a sunny porch or patio over the summer. There are palms that grow best in specific light requirements too. For bright light, Areca, Fishtail, Pygmy Date, Rhapis and Sago palms grow best. The Bamboo and Kentia palms flourish in medium indirect light, and are both people and pet friendly. The Neathe Bella or Parlor palm grows best in low lighting, and is also considered non-toxic for people and pets. Shop our online selection of indoor houseplant Palm varieties available now.

Care Notes

Grow in bright indirect lighting from an eastern or northern exposure window, or under fluorescent lighting. Prefers average to warm household temperatures, 65°-80°F. Let the soil dry out between water applications. Supply extra humidity by setting on a shallow tray of moistened pebbles. Feed with Osmocote or Miracle-Gro April-September. Keep indoors over winter, and grow outside over the summer.
