Artemisia dracunculus

french tarragon

About the French Tarragon

Wonderful, culinary member of the perennial, Artemisia family possessing smooth olive-green, narrow foliage that exudes a mild licorice flavor present fresh or dried in many French dishes including fish, chicken, beef, lamb, eggs, rice and sauces (béarnaise). Very tolerant of partial shade and excellent in container gardens like most herbs. Divide every 4-5 years to rejuvenate the plant. Part of the Angelo’s Farm Market herbs collection that were specifically selected for home growers to be productive, disease resistant, and flavorful.

Care Notes

Plant in sunny, well-drained, nutrient rich soil or containers amended with organic matter like Petitti Planting Mix. Water well after planting; maintain 1” of water once a week throughout the growing season. Feed with a slow release fertilizer, Osmocote® or Garden-tone®. Follow label instructions. Mulch 2″ to suppress weeds, retain moisture and protect against extremes of soil temperature. Harvest 1/3 of the new, tender foliage in the morning. Dry or freeze extra for future use.
