Helichrysum italicum

dwarf curry

About the Dwarf Curry

Part of the Helichrysum or strawflower family, this herb is an attractive ornamental annual with wispy, soft silver foliage topped with small clusters of golden yellow flowers in summer that dry well. It’s aroma when crushed is the salivating scent of the best curry, but the taste can be closely described as a strong, bitter taste. In cooking a little goes a long way; use with chicken, pork, rice and Thai or Indian dishes. Remember, true curries are a blend of various herbs and spices. Part of the Angelo’s Farm Market herbs collection that were specifically selected for home growers to be productive, disease resistant, and flavorful.

Care Notes

Plant in sunny, well-drained, nutrient rich soil or containers amended with organic matter like Petitti Planting Mix. Water well after planting; maintain 1” of water once a week throughout the growing season. Feed with a slow release fertilizer, Osmocote® or Garden-tone®. Follow label instructions. Mulch 2″ to suppress weeds, retain moisture and protect against extremes of soil temperature. Harvest 1/3 of the new, tender foliage in the morning. Dry or freeze extra for future use.
