About the Sweet Alyssum
This wonderfully fragrant, petite flowering annual produces clusters of white, pink to purple mini blooms making it perfect for garden edges, soft “fillers” in mixed containers, and accents that can potentially reseed in rock gardens, and in cracks and crevices in between paving stones. They grow best in cooler temperatures, but some hybrid varieties have been greatly improved with exceptional, non-stop flowering, excellent heat tolerance and vigor that allows them to fill a hanging basket, blend with other sun tolerant annuals, or use as a groundcover or edging in the landscape.
Care Notes
Grow in cool sunny to part shade areas, well-drained, evenly moist amended soil or containers. Feed with a slow release fertilizer, Osmocote® or Plant-tone®. Follow label instructions. No deadheading needed, but may need to trim back in the heat of the summer. Mulch 2″ to suppress weeds, retain moisture and protect against extremes of soil temperature. May reseed and return in the garden.
